Medco Power through PT Medco Geothermal Sumatra, officially commenced the first drilling (spud-in) of the BNJ1-1 well in Bonjol District, Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra. The inauguration was marked by the striking of a gong by the Governor of West Sumatra, Mahyeldi Ansharullah, together with Medco Power President Director, Bapak Eka Satria. The event was also attended by Pasaman Regent, Welly Suhery, Deputy Regent Parulian Dalimunthe, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), as well as local traditional leaders and community representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BNJ1-1 well is the first exploration well out of two planned under the Preliminary Survey and Exploration (PSP-E) Bonjol geothermal project. The area is estimated to hold a geothermal potential of up to 60 MW, with drilling scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. PSP-E Bonjol has been included in the list of Indonesia\u2019s National Strategic Projects outlined in the 2025\u20132034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), under the distributed power supply quota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

West Sumatra Governor, Mahyeldi Ansharullah, reaffirmed the province\u2019s commitment as a green province, with renewable energy already contributing 30.9% of the regional energy mix. He expressed hope that Medco Power\u2019s geothermal project in Bonjol will be sustainable, deliver broad benefits for local communities, and gain support from regional government, parliament, and society at large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medco Power President Director, Bapak Eka Satria, emphasized the importance of this spud-in as part of Medco Power\u2019s effort in supporting Indonesia\u2019s energy transition through environmentally friendly geothermal development. \u201cWe have built the Sarulla Geothermal Power Plant in North Sumatra and the Blawan Ijen Geothermal Power Plant in East Java, and now we are advancing with the PSP-E Bonjol project in West Sumatra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All drilling activities will prioritize safety, environmental stewardship, and respect for local wisdom. We believe the success of this project will not only deliver clean energy but also bring tangible benefits to the people of West Sumatra,\u201d he added.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
