Medco Power Indonesia, through Medco Ratch Power Riau (MRPR), has completed Watershed Area Rehabilitation (DAS) Program within the Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) of the Bukit Suligi Training Forest, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province. This initiative reflects the company\u2019s responsibility to support forest ecosystem restoration while fulfilling its obligations as stipulated in the Forest Area Utilization Permit (IPPKH) No. SK.891\/Menlhk\/Setjen\/PLA.0\/10\/2019 issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the three years of implementation period, MRPR carried out planting activities across 3.8-hectare area under the supervision of the Watershed and Protected Forest Management Agency (BPDASHL) Indragiri Rokan and the Center for Education and Training of Human Resources (BP2SDM) Region II. Based on an evaluation in mid-2025, the program was declared a success with a growth rate reaching 94.87%, exceeding the standard set by the KLHK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The official handover of the DAS Rehabilitation results took place on Friday, October 24, 2025, in Jakarta, and was presented directly by the Director General of Watershed Management and Forest Rehabilitation, Ir. Dyah Murtiningsih, M.Hum. This ceremony marked the completion of all MRPR’s DAS Rehabilitation obligations at a 1:1 ratio to the utilized forest area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rehabilitated area has now been officially handed over to BP2SDM Region II to be managed through the Social Forestry program. This program employs an innovative approach by combining commercial timber crops, such as Meranti, with multipurpose, economically valuable plant species. This strategy not only strengthens the ecological function of the area but also provides long-term economic benefits for the local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Bapak Imron Gazali, Director & Chief Operating Officer of Medco Power Indonesia, this achievement demonstrates the company’s consistency in implementing sustainability principles across all business activities. “We view the fulfilment of environmental obligations not merely as a regulatory responsibility, but as part of the core value that shapes our operations. The electricity we generate must go together with efforts to maintain ecological balance and deliver long-term societal benefits,” he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Going forward, the rehabilitation efforts at Bukit Suligi will continue to be developed through the mentorship of BP2SDM Region II, which focuses on capacity building for the Social Forestry Business Groups (KUPS). Through this synergy, MRPR and Medco Power are committed to ensuring the ecological sustainability of the area while simultaneously creating new economic opportunities for the community, making this environmental initiative a vital component of sustainable energy development.<\/p>\n
