Demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability, PT Medco Power Indonesia, through its subsidiaries PT Energi Listrik Batam (ELB) and PT Mitra Energi Batam (MEB), participated in a Plastic Waste Cleanup Action around the Horizon Industrial Area, Sungai Lekop Village, Sagulung District, Batam City, on Thursday, June 5, 2025. This activity was part of a series of events organized by the Batam City Environmental Agency, aiming to foster public awareness and action around waste reduction and environment preservation.
The event demonstrated strong synergy among various parties, with the direct presence of Batam Mayor, Bapak Amsakar Achmad, accompanied by Batam Deputy Mayor, Ibu Li Claudia Chandra. Approximately 350 participants filled the action area, including representatives from local government at the village and district levels, Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), environmental enthusiast communities, company representatives, and the public.
In his speech, Bapak Amsakar Achmad highlighted the enormous potential of waste in Batam, which can reach up to 1,300 tons per day. He emphasized that waste management is not solely the responsibility of one party but a collective responsibility.
“We want to show that solving the waste problem in Batam is not only the duty of one party but our shared responsibility,” said Bapak Amsakar, emphasizing the importance of collective awareness from all elements of society. He also stressed the importance of continuous education for the community to ensure waste is disposed of properly, for a cleaner and more sustainable Batam environment.
Supporting this message, Bapak Imron Gazali, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of PT Medco Power Indonesia, stated, “At Medco Power Indonesia, we believe that clean energy must go hand in hand with a clean environment. The participation of ELB and MEB in this action is part of our long-term commitment to contributing to a healthy ecosystem in Batam, as well as increasing public awareness of the importance of waste management. We are confident that with strong collaboration, we can create a greener and more sustainable Batam for future generations.”
By engaging in this initiative, Medco Power Indonesia not only contribute to a cleaner environment but also strengthens its role in social responsibility, in supporting the government and empowering communities in a better waste management.
