Medco Power Indonesia, through its subsidiary PT Medco Ratch Power Riau (MRPR) successfully conducted a Biodiversity Action Plan campaign focused on raising awareness about biodiversity and the conservation of endangered animals. The two-days event was conducted at three schools along the MRPR gas pipeline route: SDN 1 Kuala Gasib, SMPN 2 Tualang, and SMAN 4 Tualang, with a total of 170 student participants.
The Riau PLTGU area, situated in Siak Regency, features a unique and rich ecosystem of flora and fauna. Through this initiative, MRPR reinforced its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly goals 13 (Climate Action) and 15 (Life on Land), focusing on the conservation of endangered species and habitat restoration.
The program commenced with a pre-assessment to see the students’ understanding and knowledge of biodiversity, followed by interactive sessions featuring animated videos and discussions. Students were enthusiastic during the discussions and share their opinion on conservation efforts. A drawing competition themed around Pangolins and Siamangs was held, involving participants from each school.
The campaign concluded with a post-assessment to measure the increase in students’ understanding after the program. Educational materials, including animated videos, brochures, and banners, were developed in collaboration with the Riau Natural Resources Conservation Center.
“This program is very beneficial, not only for the students but also for the teachers. We will disseminate this information to the community to support the conservation of endangered animals,” said Aparisal, the principal of SDN 1 Kuala Gasib.
I Made Budiarta, General Manager of PT MRPR, stated, “We hope to continue making significant contributions to environmental education and the conservation of protected species, aligning with our efforts to preserve Indonesia’s ecosystems.”
