PT. Medco Power Indonesia (MPI) again shows their concern and contribution to the society through their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibilty) activity. Through one of its subsdiaries, Medco Geothermal Sarulla (MGS), Medco Power Indonesia establishes a library in SD Negeri Lumban Gaol, Pahae Julu, Northern Tapanuli district, North Sumatera. The location itself is near the Sarulla Geothermal Power Plant 330 MW, the largest gheotermal power plant in single contract in the world, that operated by Medco Power Indonesia.
The library called ‘Sopo Malo Medco’ (in Bataknese languange), that has meaning as ‘Rumah Pintar Medco’ in Bahasa Indonesia, or ‘Medco’s Smart House’.The library has a building area of 50.16 square meters (7.6 x 6.6 m) with a distinctive color of the Batak area (red, black and white) on the outside. But it has colorful and cheerful nuances in the inside, that really suitable for children.
“I hope this library can be beneficial for the community around Sarulla Geothermal Power Plant. Also, starting from this library, I hope we can improve the education quality here. So, the children here will become more intelligent and will be able to become engineers or manpower who can advance Nothern Tapanuli in the future,” said President Director of Medco Power Indonesia, Fazil Erwin Alfitri when inaugurating the library.
This library is not only open for SD Negeri Lumban Gaol’s students, but also open for the public. It has supporting facilities such as bookcases full with books for children and desks. Where most of the books are donated from Medco Power Indonesia employees. In addition, on weekends there will be MGS employees come to teach the children there. Like story telling, music, or reading and writing.
Medco Power Indonesia, through MGS in collaboration with local schools and Education Department, will continue to foster this library. Also, make it as pilot project to build another libraries in Sarulla Geothermal Power Plant area, as Medco Power Indonesia CSR activities and their contribution to educate the nation.
