PT Medco Power Indonesia, through its subsidiary PT Energi Listrik Batam (ELB), continues to show strong performance in the development of the ELB Add-On Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) 39 MW project. The project is scheduled for completion in August 2025, two months ahead of the timeline stipulated in the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with PLN Batam.
As of now, engineering activities have reached the final stages. Major equipment procurement, such as the Steam Turbine Generator (STG), Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), Cooling Tower, and Black Start Diesel Generator (BSDG), has achieved significant progress. On the construction side, major foundation work and the installation of large equipment are proceeding intensively on-site. Several crucial activities, including the HRSG and switchyard installation, are also showing development in line with the planned schedule.
During Medco Power management site visit last March, the on-site team demonstrated a high level of readiness to complete construction and commissioning work according to the target. This activity also served as an important moment for management to convey direct appreciation to the team that has worked hard to maintain work quality and safety amidst efforts to accelerate the schedule and the complexities of Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPS) with the existing Simple Cycle operations.
Bapak Imron Gazali, Chief Operating Officer of Medco Power and President Director of ELB, who was present during the visit, expressed his optimism regarding the project’s achievements. “This project remains on budget and on track! We continue to maintain close coordination with all stakeholders to ensure the completion target before October 2025 can be met. For us, efficiency is not only about cost and time, but also about the quality and satisfaction of all parties, including the stakeholders involved,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Bapak Eka Satria, President Director of Medco Power and President Commissioner of ELB, acknowledged the project’s progress but also emphasized the importance of safety. “I am very pleased to see the project’s on-track development. However, this acceleration must not compromise safety and operational aspects, especially since ELB is a project being carried out with rather complex SIMOPS. We must also ensure that all rights and obligations in the Power Purchase Agreement between ELB and PLN Batam are properly implemented,” he said.
With the current progress, coupled with strong support from the entire team and stakeholders, the ELB Add-On CCPP 39 MW project is expected to make a significant contribution to strengthening the reliability of electricity supply in Batam and the surrounding areas, while also serving as an example of clean energy project execution that is safe, efficient, timely, and within budget.
