Ijen Geothermal Power Plant Wins Best IPP Company Award in the Renewable Energy Power Plant Category for Technological Innovation at the Indonesia Best Electricity Award 2025

Medco Power Indonesia, through its subsidiary PT Medco Cahaya Geothermal (MCG), received an award at the 2025 Indonesia Best Electricity Awards (IBEA) held at Hotel Bidakara, Jakarta, on July 4, 2025. The award was granted in the category of Best IPP Company for Renewable Energy Power Plant in the Field of Technological Innovation. MCG successfully completed the development of the Ijen Geothermal Power Plant (Ijen GPP) Phase 1 and achieved commercial operation in early February 2025.

Ijen GPP is the first geothermal power plant in Indonesia to implement two-phase binary technology, offering several advantages such as 100% reinjection (to maintain reservoir pressure), reduced need for make-up wells, cost efficiency, and optimized power generation by utilizing both steam and brine (geothermal fluid).

Officially inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, on June 26, 2025, Ijen GPP is also the first geothermal power plant in East Java. Operating on a 117-hectare site, Ijen GPP supplies green energy to 85,000 households and supports the national clean energy transition by avoiding approximately 7 million tons of CO2 emissions over the lifespan of Unit 1.

Femi Sastrena, President Director of PT MCG, expressed appreciation for the IBEA award, stating, “This recognition certainly boosts our spirit to operate the power plant safely and in alignment with operational excellence standards, as outlined in our Power Purchase Agreement with PLN.”
