Jakarta, September 26, 2022 – PT Medco Power Indonesia (Medco Power) and Kansai Electric Power Co.,Inc. (Kansai) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a joint study for the feasibility of decarbonization of power plants in Indonesia, at the second Asia Green Growth Partnership Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo, Japan. The meeting primarily discussed the pathway of energy transition in Asia and highlighted the important balance between the economy and the environment.
Leveraging Medco’s experience in the oil and gas, and power generation as well as Kansai’s expertise in decarbonization technologies in the power sector, the joint study is expected to set up a framework to implement decarbonization of power plants using captured CO2 and utilization of biomass fuel for co-firing, with the objective to reduce emissions from power plants in Indonesia.
President Director of Medco Power, Eka Satria said “As the leading clean and renewable power company in Indonesia, Medco Power continues to support the Indonesian Government’s commitment to climate change mitigation and targets towards emissions reduction and net zero goals. We believe that Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) could represent a potential solution for carbon offset in the power sector”.
MedcoEnergi CEO, Roberto Lorato added “This initiative is part of our commitment to pursue net zero greenhouse gas emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2050 and Scope 3 by 2060”.
