Three subsidiaries of PT Medco Power Indonesia Mitra Energi Batam (MEB), Energi Listrik Batam (ELB), and Medco Ratch Power Riau (MRPR) have successfully earned the Electrical Safety Management System (SMK2) Certificate with a Blue Predicate from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
The award was presented by the Directorate General of Electricity (DJK) ESDM last October, during the Forum and Appreciation for the Implementation of Electrical Safety 2025 held in Jakarta.
These Medco Power assets play a vital role in ensuring reliable electricity supply within their respective operating regions. MEB operates the Panaran Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP), while ELB manages the Tanjung Uncang Gas Power Plant (GPP)—both supporting the stability of Batam’s power system. Meanwhile, MRPR operates the Riau CCPP, which since 2022 has contributed to gas-based power generation in Riau Province.
The implementation of SMK2 is mandated under Ministerial Regulation of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 38 of 2018 and Director General of Electricity Decree No. 144.K/20/DJL.4/2019, which emphasize the importance of safety management systems to ensure the reliability of power installations and the protection of workers, communities, and the environment.
“We have implemented SMK2 in a structured manner through risk mapping, enhancement of work procedures, technical and HSE competency development, and internal audits to ensure that every control is effectively applied in the field. All these efforts are aimed at maintaining asset integrity, system reliability, and the protection of both workers and the community. Moving forward, implementation will continue to be strengthened, including integrating safety aspects into digital operations tracking and continuous improvement, as part of Medco Power’s operational excellence standards,” said Bapak Imron Gazali, Director & Chief of Operating Officer Medco Power.
This achievement reinforces Medco Power’s commitment to upholding safety as top operational priority. The company remains committed to enhancing capabilities, strengthening system integration, and maintaining consistency in SMK2 implementation across all its assets.
