Medco Power Indonesia took part in the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2025, held in Singapore. One of the key sessions attended was the Asia Gas Market Conference, organized by S&P Global on 28–29 October 2025, carrying the theme “The Future of Gas-Fired Power in Asia’s Decarbonization.”
Bapak Femi Sastrena, Director & Chief Commercial and Business Development Officer of Medco Power was featured as one of the prominent speakers including Chris Starling from JERA Asia, Vickrem Vijayan form Sembcorp, Kelvin Wong form DBS Bank.
During the discussion, Bapak Femi highlighted that Indonesia’s latest Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) projects an additional 10 GW of gas-fired power capacity, equivalent to around 15% of total planned power additions over the next 10 years. Interestingly, in the first five years, this portion is expected to rise to 30%, making gas-fired power the largest contributor among all power generation types, including renewables. This underscores the strategic role of gas in supporting the national electricity system.

Furthermore, Bapak Femi emphasized that gas-fired power plants will remain a backbone of Indonesia’s energy transition, particularly in the short to medium term. However, he also noted several challenges, ranging from domestic Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) provisions to global gas turbine shortages driven by surging demand, especially from the United States and the Middle East.
In his closing remarks Bapak Femi reaffirmed the importance of close collaboration between the government and the private sector in realizing the development of gas-based power generation in Indonesia.
