PT ENERGI LISTRIK BATAM SIGNS AMENDMENT OF POWER PURCHASE AGREEMENT AND ENGINEERING, PROCUREMENT AND CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR THE CONVERSION OF SIMPLE CYCLE TO A COMBINED CYCLE POWER PLANT IN TANJUNG UNCANG, BATAM

Batam, 21 July 2023 – PT Medco Power Indonesia (“Medco Power”) through its subsidiary PT Energi Listrik Batam (“ELB”) signed an amendment of Power Purchase Agreement (PPA Amendment) with PT PLN Batam and an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contract with PT Inti Karya Persada Tehnik Batam to converts the existing Simple Cycle Power Plant (SCPP) at Tanjung Uncang, Batam into a Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP), increasing the existing capacity from 70MW to 109 MW (the Project).

This conversion is carried out, not only will increase the plant capacity but also improves its efficiency through the utilization of exhaust waste heat as fuel for additional steam turbine generator and significantly reduces the cost of electricity generation of the plant. The Project is planned to complete within 24 months with a target of construction completion by the third quarter of 2025.

M. Irwansyah Putra, President Director of PT PLN Batam said, “The increase of electricity demand in Batam should be in line and supported by the readiness of available electricity generation plant. PLN Batam continues to carry out various efforts to meet the electricity growing demand and to provide electricity to all of its customers. To build a new power plant may take quite a long time, it is therefore maximizing the capacity of existing power plant is the fastest and best option to have additional power generation capacity in Batam.” Further, Irwansyah also concurred, “This PPA Amendment will enhance the collaboration and synergy that have been well established so far between PT PLN Batam and PT Energi Listrik Batam.”

Eka Satria, President Director of Medco Power stated, “The additional capacity at Tanjung Uncang Simple Cycle Power Plant is aimed to support the reliability of the Batam-Bintan electricity system, including anticipation when electricity generated from renewable energy (with intermittent supply) entering into PLN Batam electricity grid system.” Eka also added, “With this Project, PT PLN Batam will obtain an additional 39 MW of new power capacity without requiring additional gas as fuel, while reducing level of carbon emission in Batam electricity grid system which is in line with the Government program to achieve the Net Zero Emission target in 2060.”
